Palm Beach, Florida
Palm Beach is the kind of place that begs you to stitch something with a flamingo or palm tree on it.
Where to shop: Lycette Designs, the legendary Palm Beach needlepoint institution known for its whimsical, hand-painted canvases and preppy Palm Beach motifs.
Where to stay:Palm House is a boutique hotel with polished-but-playfully pink decor, and is an easy walk to Lycette Designs for shopping. The Boca Raton is a bit further away but a great option if you prioritize a beach club over a pool.
Avalon & Cape May, New Jersey
Avalon is one of the chicest stops on the Jersey Shore. Just 25 minutes away is Cape May with a walkable historic downtown, and a slower, old-fashioned seaside charm.
Where to shop: B. Hartzell's Avalon shop (open only for the season) has shore-themed canvases, and Stitch By Stitch in Cape May, a long-running full-service needlepoint store has great selection of local-designer canvases.
Where to stay: Congress Hall in the heart of Cape May is a grand, old-seaside-resort that will make the whole trip feel like a step back in time.
New York City, New York
New York City needs no introduction. You’ll be able to spend the morning gallery-hopping or wandering Central Park, then the afternoon canvas-hunting on the Upper East Side.
Where to shop: Penny Linn Designs and Rita's Needlepoint, two Manhattan favorites for canvases, finishing, and expert guidance.
Where to stay:Faena, just a ten-minute walk from Penny Linn, has a distinct style with bold art and a 17,000-square-foot Healing House. The Pierre sits just off Central Park and is just as iconic as it is elegant. It’s a classic, old-world counterpoint to Faena's maximalist glamour.
